According to Zaken, at least two news organizations, a large news agency and a foreign TV network, had footage of the celebrations in Nablus and Ramallah that included Palestinian policemen shooting in the air in joy within a crowd of hundreds. They declined, Zaken reports, to broadcast the material after senior officials in the Palestinian Authority - including PA ministers who are frequently interviewed by the media - contacted the heads of the news organizations, threatening the lives of the cameramen and stringers in the field and that if they broadcast the reports that they would not be allowed to cover events within the Authority in the future. The news agencies declined to comment to Israel Radio.

MEMORIAL PROTEST AT PLO UN MISSION FOR ISRAELIS MURDERED IN PALESTINIAN TERROR ATTACKS FOLLOWING DURBAN RACISM CONFERENCE

Perhaps Heaven was crying, too.

Rain began to fall as Rabbi Avi Weiss led a protest memorial Monday afternoon at the PLO UN Mission on Manhattan's East Side to focus Yasir Arafat as the instigator of anti-Israel, anti-semitic hatred at the just-concluded Durban conference on racism which saw immediate concrete results in three terror attacks in Israel on Sunday. Five Israelis were killed by two suicide bombers and a drive-by shooting.

Rabbi Weiss, national president of the Coalition for Jewish Concerns-Amcha, which organized Monday's action, declared: "We see Israel as our family. After such an attack occurs, one enters a period of paralyzing bereavement. Yet we have the responsibility, even as the blood of the murdered is warm, to stand up and speak out.

"The PLO and Palestinian Authority have murdered so many Americans, their formal presence in New York City should be seen as a danger. The police who are protecting the PLO Mission should, in fact, be protecting us from the PLO. Terrorism knows no boundaries, and has already come here.

The City of New York should do all in its power to remove the PLO."

As demonstrators stood with signs such as "President Bush: No Talks With Arafat Until Palestinian Terror Attacks He Instigates Cease!", Rabbi Weiss recited the El Moleh Rachamim (G-d Filled With Compassion) prayer for those killed Sunday: Yaakov Hatzav, 42, Morel Drapler, 41, Corporal Danny Yifrah, 19, Yigal Goldstein, 47, and Sima Franko, 24.

On Sunday night, dozens of university students also gathered at the PLO UN Mission for a vigil to protest the terror attacks earlier in the day.

IRAQ DEVELOPS UNMANNED AIR VEHICLE FOR DELIVERY OF WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION

WASHINGTON [MENL] -- Iraq has developed an unmanned air vehicle capable of delivering a chemical or biological warhead, the CIA says.

In its latest report, the U.S. intelligence agency said the regime of President Saddam Hussein is advancing development of the L-29 UAV. In an unclassified report released over the weekend, the CIA identified the L-29 as a jet trainer aircraft acquired from Eastern Europe.

The report said Iraq has conducted test flights of the L-29 in an effort to modify the aircraft for the delivery of weapons of mass destruction. The CIA would not say whether Iraq was obtaining foreign help in the UAV program.

"Iraq has continued working on its L-29 unmanned aerial vehicle program, which involves converting L-29 jet trainer aircraft originally acquired from Eastern Europe," the report said. "It is believed that Iraq has conducted flights of the L-29, possibly to test system improvements or to train new pilots. These refurbished trainer aircraft are believed to have been modified for delivery of chemical or, more likely, biological warfare agents."

The CIA report covers the acquisition of technology relating to weapons of mass destruction and advanced conventional munitions from the period of July 1, 2000 until the end of that year. Iraq is believed to have at least 6,000 chemical weapons as well as biological weapons.

The L-29 is one of numerous military programs launched by Iraq over the last few years. The report said that since the suspension of United Nations weapons inspections in 1998, Iraq has obtained Western dual-use equipment to restore both missile factories and WMD installations. Nuclear research has also been resumed.

The report said Iraq also appears close to completing development of a short-range ballistic missile. The missile has been named Al Samoud and is driven by liquid propellant.

Talking points on the catastrophe

Many have already been contacted by the media for commentary on the attacks in NYC and Washington. Here are possible talking points:

1) This is an awful catstrophe

2) Our first thoughts must be with the victims.

3) We condemn acts of terror in the strongest possible ways.

4) It is important not to jump to conclusions about who or how this was caused and to wait for the situation to be clear.

No need to say anything else.

PMW: Palestinians glorify suicide bombing

Palestinian Media Watch Bulletin September 11, 2001

Today's official PA daily glorifies suicide bombers, in its caricature and in an opinion piece which calls them:

"the salt of the earth...the most honorable among us."

Caricature in Palestinian Authority official daily shows a Palestinian with his mouth full of hand grenade making the victory sign with his hand and and Israeli soldier running away from him.

Text: "The hero of the Naharia [suicide] attack is from the Abu Sinan village in Palestine '48" [Al Hayat Al Jadida, Sept. 11, 2001]

Note: Many Palestinians refuse to recognize Israel's existence and routinely refer to Israel as "Palestine 48" - a shortened version of "Palestine occupied in 1948." Also note: The suicide attack being praised was carried out two days ago. Three people were killed and nearly a hundred wounded.

>From column in Palestinian Authority official daily

"The suicide bombers of today are the noble successors of their noble predecessors...the Lebanese suicide bombers, who taught the US Marines a tough lesson in [Lebanon]...and then, with no preconditions, they threw the last of the remaining enemy [Israeli] soldiers out of the [security] zone. These suicide bombers are the salt of the earth, the engines of history...They are the most honorable [people] among us..."

CHIEF RABBI BAKSHI-DORON CALLS ON ISLAMIC CLERICS TO RESCIND SUICIDE-BOMBING FATWA AND CALL FOR THE PRESERVATION OF THE SANCTITY OF LIFE

(Communicated by the Chief Rabinate's Spokesman)

Jerusalem Wednesday, September 12, 2001

Sephardi Chief Rabbi Eliyahu Bakshi-Doron today (Wednesday), 12.9.2001, called on the Islamic clerics who had published a fatwa ordering suicide-bombings and declaring the bombers shahid, martyrs, to rescind the terrible order and to call on the world to preserve the sanctity of of life, and to forbid large-scale attacks on innocent civilians.

Whoever calls a suicide bomber a martyr is an accessory to the horrible crime, because that is the spiritual infrastructure for the perpetrators of these crimes. The fatwa encourages suicide bombings and the cries of joy among the Muslim youth in various places proves that.

I call on the leaders of the Arab world who are condemning this terrible tragedy to call on religious leaders to immediately cancel the definition of a suicide bomber as a martyr and forbid all large-scale attacks.

We all pray to the Creator of the universe to bring peace amongst us and bestow only good tidings upon us.
