He's still there in several guises. At least until someone removes those pages as well.

William G. Hillar is a retired Colonel of the U.S. Army Special Forces. He has served in Asia, the Middle East, and Central and South America, where his diverse training and experiences included tactical counter-terrorism, explosive ordnance, emergency medicine and psychological warfare.
His military expertise led him not only to cross-train and serve with Special Forces from allied countries, but to advise governments and military organizations in several foreign nations. He holds a B.A. in Psychology, an M.A. in Education, a Ph.D. in Health Education, and an honorary doctorate in Intercultural Relations.
In 1988, while traveling with schoolmates in Southeast Asia, kidnappers pulled Bill Hillar’s 17-year old daughter off a train and forced her into the sex industry. Despite an exhaustive, multi-country search, her father, a Special Forces Colonel, was unable to save his daughter from the fate that ultimately took her life. The recent movie "Taken," with Liam Neeson is partially based on Bill Hillar’s personal story.
Hillar provides training and consultation to law enforcement, firefighters, and other first responder organizations where quick reaction and rapid recovery are essential for survival. Hillar is also an adjunct professor at Monterey Institute of International Studies and the University of Oregon. His courses and workshops include: http://billhillartraining.com

Robert Mark Kamen
“The way I look at it, [struggling screenwriters] are all my direct competition, so I mostly tell all of them to go find another job and become lawyers.”
The Script Assassin
Written by Shira Gotshalk
Robert Mark Kamen was working as a script assassin for Warner Brothers in 1993 when he was introduced to Luc Besson, a meeting that completely reshaped his professional life. After working together on The Professional and The Fifth Element, Besson invited Kamen to join him in his quest of building a mini-studio in Europe, creating “movies that would travel, international movies, you know, action movies,” but instead of spending 100 million Hollywood bucks, Besson planned to shell out $18-25 million out of his own pocket. Frustrated with the studio system, Kamen replied, “Sure.”
That afternoon, they flew to Los Angeles to pitch a movie to Jet Li. “I said, ‘What movie?’ He said, ‘We’ll make it up on the plane.’ And for five hours, we sat on the plane, and we made up Kiss of the Dragon,” he remembers. He and Li hit it off immediately. “I’ve been doing martial arts since I was 17, and he’s a big hero of mine, and he revered The Karate Kid as being the one true martial arts movie, blah, blah, blah. And that’s how we started.”
February marks 30 years of writing screenplays, ranging from Karate Kid to The Transporter series to the new Liam Neeson vehicle, Taken. Kamen lives in New York, owns a vineyard in Sonoma, and commutes to work in Paris at Besson’s headquarters. Eight movies later, theirs is a happy partnership. “I don’t have to deal with studio executives, who are the most frustrating people in the whole world because they can only say no,” Kamen beams, “and I’ve lived happily-ever-after to this day.”
In a recent conversation with the Writers Guild of America, West Web site, Kamen discussed how to write fight scenes, kung fu monks, and the secret to keeping sequels fresh.
It seems like Taken is a bit more of a crime thriller than you’ve worked on before...
Yeah, it’s an action/thriller as opposed to just an action/action.
Was that a specific direction you wanted to head in?
No. Here’s how this works. Luc and I write scripts together. We conceptualize them together, then I write them, and then he does his Luc Besson things to them, then he goes off, and he produces them. So howTaken came about was Luc came to me and said, “I met this cop, and he told me this amazing story about an auction of women in a chateau outside of Paris; that they broke up this ring. I think this is amazing, so let’s make up a story.” And then we made up the story of Taken.

Maggie Grace in Taken.
Beyond the Karate Kid movies, how has the practice of martial arts informed you as a writer?
Well, I can write great action scenes. Action scenes are written like little movies. They’re in three acts, almost, and you have to fill up each act. And since I know a lot about fighting, I can be specific about it. But what I find is, you don’t have to when you have great choreographers like Cory Yuen or Woo-ping Yuen, who did Unleashed. You just sort of inform the scene by making it in three acts and let them put in all the technical stuff.
When you’re working on sequels, how do you keep the story fresh while maintaining the legend of the characters?
Pure fear. See, you just start with the character, and the character is not gonna change. If it’s a sequel, these people are already popularized for your audience. What you do is, you take the rules that you established in the first one, and then you either try to amp it up, or you try to put the character into a more crucial situation. And you just sort of crucial it up and crucial it up until you can’t crucial it up anymore. Then it’s time to get out.
Do you enjoy writing as a team or do you feel a sense of personal compromise?
No, Luc is one of my best friends. I mean, we -- as much as a totally self-absorbed, French, mogul, producer, director, totally rich person can love another person, he -- we never fight. We never not get along. We both have our established roles in these things. When we have differences of opinion, we talk them out. He usually wins; sometimes I win. He trusts my instincts about stuff he knows nothing about.
I will never, ever question his visual, cinematic instincts. I always say to him, “You know, you’re like a camera on legs.” I’ll write a script, and we’ll sit down -- we’re gonna do it tomorrow, he’s coming in tonight -- and I will read the script out loud to him, what I’ve written. He will sit there with pen and paper, and he’ll just make little notes, little notes, little notes. And then after I’m finished reading, we’ll start at page one, and he will say, “Okay, this is what happens: The camera looks here, and it comes here, and then we’re gonna move here, and we’re gonna make the camera move here, and the girl is sitting at the table, and she’s doing this. And then the guy is gonna come up, and they’re gonna shoot this way. And the door is gonna open this way. And then when she runs, we’re going to close on her feet, Robert, and we’re gonna go into one room, another room, into the bathroom. You’re gonna go close on her foot. She’s gonna putleft foot on the toilet, right foot on the ledge. She’s gonna tumble herself out the window…
Wow.
And the way we write the scenes is we do that, and then he will literally storyboard these things with the angles and with all his cinematic vision, and he’ll take a director, usually he finds these young directors, like Louis Leterrier or Pierre Morel, and he says, “Look, this is how this is. This is the cinematic language we’re gonna use, dah, dah, dah.” And then he turns them loose, and it cuts out so much stuff. You go right from point A to point Z. They’re not masterpieces, but they’re really cool movies and very popular.
What is your fantasy writing project now?
I have three. I have one that I wrote about eight or nine years ago for Fox called Brittle Innings. It’s the story of Frankenstein playing baseball in 1943 on a semipro team in a small town in Georgia. It’s a wonderful script. I mean, it’s really great. I love it, and it will never get made. It’s a little movie, and I don’t have that kind of power.
And the other one is a movie for Chuck Roven. I wrote a script for him literally almost on spec, for nothing. He got the rights to a movie called Oasis, a Korean movie, and I wrote the American version. It is my passion. Anne Hathaway is attached to it. It’s a love story between a girl with cerebral palsy and a boy who’s just gotten out of prison, who’s a little slow. It’s great. Not what I usually write.
And then the other one is something I just heard last night that actually might happen. I wrote it for Jet Li called A Monk in New York about a Tibetan monk who’s been living in a cave in Tibet for 10 years, and he comes to New York. He wins a contest from Coca-Cola. It’s a very funny setup.
Is it a non-kung fu movie or martial arts?
It’s a non-kung fu movie. The monk, he fights. When I first wrote the script, Jet said to me, the monk doesn’t fight. Jet and I went to a monastery for three weeks in Tibet, and we sat in this monastery in the middle of nowhere. I mean, it was five hours to a telephone. And he kept saying to me, “Robert, the monk doesn’t fight.” And I kept saying, “Jet, there’s nobody who is going to go see a Jet Li movie where the monk doesn’t fight.” He said, “No, no, the message of Buddhism” -- because he’s a very devout Buddhist -- “is that a monk doesn’t fight.” And then Jet went to see a very revered Tibetan rinpoche, and he said to him, “I’m not gonna do movies anymore.” And the guy said, “Are you crazy? You must do movies. This way, you can get the message of Buddhism to people. We do not preach to people who already are non-violent. You want to preach to the violent people, and they won’t come see a movie where Jet Li doesn’t fight. So you must fight.”
And then out of nowhere he called me up and said, “Robert, the monk can fight.” I said, but I just constructed a whole script where he doesn’t.” He said, “So what, go reconstruct.” So I reconstructed this whole script where the monk fights, but doesn’t fight. Never raises a hand to anybody until the very end. And the bad guy learns his lesson, and the city learns their lesson. And everybody he touches turns good.
So those are my three wishes, and I think at least one of them will come true. But, you know, selling people on a movie where Anne Hathaway spends most of it drooling and gurgling is not so easy.
Do you have any advice for writers who may be struggling or trying to persevere at the beginning of their careers?
Oh, the way I look at it, they are all my direct competition, so I mostly tell all of them to go find another job and become lawyers. No, writing screenplays is so different from other writing, and if you really love it -- a lot of screenwriters write because they want to direct, and they find screenwriting really painful, and they want to get out of it as soon as possible. And if that’s the case, I have nothing to say to them. That’s their path towards what they really want to do.
But if you want to be pure screenwriter, it’s much harder than when I broke in. Everyday there’s somebody at the studio that’s the flavor of the month. Completely ignore everything about the business, is my advice to anybody writing movies. Because if you pay attention to the business, it will kill you. You have to focus if you just want to be a pure screenwriter. And there aren’t a lot of us. There are a lot of guys and girls who want to be directors, who want to be producers, they want to expand. Don’t read Variety. Don’t listen to gossip. Don’t live in L.A., and write.
I write original screenplays every year besides the movies I get made, and I just put them away. Write what makes you excited, and if it makes you excited, and you’re any good, it will excite somebody else. And if it doesn’t excite them to buy it, it will excite them to let you write something that they have. Focus on what makes you happy every day, because you have to sit down every day and look at that blank page. And what’s gonna get you off? What’s gonna make you happy that day besides finishing the day, is that you write something that makes you have that particular feeling.
And, if anyone is around the University of Oregon in the next few days, the "COL" is giving a presentation, and the US District Attorney is having an exhibit in the same conference. Could make for one h*ll of a lunch

HUMAN TRAFFICKING
Traditionally, slaves were considered non-human property that was bought and sold, moved from place to place without consent, controlled by physical violence, subjected to unlimited sexual use by the master and anyone else they chose, allowed to keep no money or own possessions.
Today, public slave trading blocks have been replaced by cell phones and the internet. Iron shackles have been exchanged for less ‘visible’ means of force, fraud and coercion.
Tragically, little else of significance has changed for the world’s estimated 12 million men, women and children being trafficked into prostitution, pornography, sweatshops, field work, domestic servitude, child soldiering, drug selling, street begging, and even organ selling on a global scale never before seen in history.

It is a poorly understood fact that the United States recognizes the basic humans rights of life and liberty for every individual inside its borders, regardless of citizenship or immigration status. Human trafficking is a criminal violation of those human rights.
The U.S. Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000 (TVPA) set the legal bar when it officially defined human trafficking as the recruitment, harboring, transporting, obtaining, or maintaining of a person by means of force, fraud or coercion, for purposes of involuntary servitude, debt bondage, slavery, or participation in the sex trade.
Furthermore, the TVPA specifically defined trafficking victims to include anyone under the age 18 involved in commercial sex acts, period.
The choice to eliminate the need for proof of force, fraud or coercion in cases of sex trafficked minors was based on the assumption that no child is developmentally mature enough to choose to engage in commercial sex acts without a corruptive influence who is in some way exploiting them.
This watershed decision helped throw open the door to pursuing the rescue of thousands of American ‘juvenile prostitutes’ who, up to this point, had generally been seen as criminals rather than as victims of a crime.

I suspect this gastropod weaseled his way into the system with fake bonafides and an impressive gift for entertaining his audiences with heroic and tragic tales, and then once inside - like so many who have similarly infested organizations such as the VFW, VVA, MOPH, etc - he was able to use those who had either heard him or of him to continue along on his path of deceit.
No longer. It is time for the noble to flee for his life from the wrath of the duped peasants.

"Hi!
Just want to let you know that the military information has now been removed from Bill Hillar’s bio on our website. It took a few days for the Google “search” function to refresh, so that it didn’t come up when a search was done, but all appears fine now. As you probably surmise, this will not be the end of a review of his background and employment here at MIIS. (emphasis mine)
A tip: I understand he might have a similar bio on the website at a school in Oregon – perhaps U of Oregon or Oregon State. Good luck and thanks again!"

November 4, 6, 7
University of Portland
Keynote Speakers:
Dr. Bill Hillar Bill is a retired Special Forces Colonel with an immense background in special ops and counter-terrorism. He has spent years training others including law enforcement, military, and other fast-reaction responders.
The movie, "Taken" with Liam Neeson, was inspired by his personal story. The kidnapping of his daughter, and subsequent extensive search through numerous countries to find her, has made him a passionate advocate for victims of human trafficking. She had been forced into sex trafficking and his search for her brought him into personal contact with the scum who profit from this horrific illegal industry.

Bill Hillar is an international expert in human trafficking and has devoted his life to fighting this atrocity both abroad and in our own country. The hit movie “Taken” with Liam Neesem was loosely based on Bill Hillar’s personal story although the Hollywood ending was not his own. In 1988, while traveling with schoolmates in Southeast Asia, kidnappers pulled his 17 year old daughter off of a train and forced her into the sex industry. Despite an exhaustive, multi-country search, he was unable to save his daughter from being killed by her captors. He now devotes and enormous amount of his time and resources to help teach others about human trafficking and how to stop it.

I emailed them a few days ago, trying to give them a heads up. They obviously are trying to do good and should have a warning before going down with the ship.
However... I got an adamant email back saying that I had to be wrong. They'd known him for 9 years and he's good as gold.
From her email - "He has created a lot of awareness in our area and others. All for free. People have changed their careers because of him. I hope you'll look deeper into what he does and realize what a gift he has been to us - including teaching Bible Study!"
TS, called Tim Reed about this. He is the University POC for all Halls/commons and student activities.
The school is only renting the hall but he was very interested and does not want any phony using there facilities. Gave him this website and my personal info for contact
I have been keeping a close watch on the Bill Hillar thread. I just recently registered with your site and am not able to post for another 48 hrs. I noticed many members mentioning his email address being down. Here is the email address that he gave to his students during one of his classes:
bhillar@gmail.com It's different than the one on the famous billhillartraining.com and worked last week.
Also, in case anyone wants to see Bill "in action" the following link will take you to a facebook page with a 20 minute video of him telling the story of his abducted daughter and the search to find her. The version he gave to his students in his "tactical counterterrorism" class had many more theatrical details, including "shooting the bastard responsible, but not feeling any better", but the following version still gives you an idea on how he works. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Recycl...41949669152591
I have sat in on two of Bill's classes and have previously reported inconsistencies from each to the administration. There were many examples of plagiarism from reputable SF books. I was very happy to see the thread start on your site and that Bill will finally be responsible for his actions. I hope the above information is useful. If I can be of any help on the Bill Hillar issue, please let me know. Thanks for your work.

Ready for another disgusting fact? Looks like a legitimate professor has been giving out a scholarship from his own pocket in the name of Bill’s daughter. Another example of Bill taking advantage of good people, with a good cause. Bill, do you have any principles?

P.S. Here is an additional email address that I don’t think has been mentioned yet bill.hillar@miis.edu
The prizes are given in memory of Professor Bill Hillar’s daughter Sale, who was taken by human traffickers and killed as she tried to flee her captors in Southeast Asia.
BUT,, Google only finds "Sale Hillar" in blogs.miis.edu,, another dead end..

Hillar & Hedinger Freedom Fund......I wonder what that is, what it does and where it gets funding. The Hillar and Hedinger Freedom Fund is associated with the University of Oregon Foundation but there is nothing mentioning HHFF on the UOF website.
In the little bit of searching I have done on Hillar, many of the result appear to be activist groups like Recycle Love Festival that use words like Transforming, Revolutionary and Collective. In a manner of speaking it reminds me of ACORN, MoveON.org front companies.
I had a telephone conversation with Dr. J. Thomas Hennessey, Jr., Chief of Staff for George Mason University about the event scheduled for 16 Nov 10..
He has HIS staff reviewing the qualifications of William G. Hillar.

He indicated that he would review the results personally..

Mr. Tate,
Mr. Hillar is lying when he says that he never claimed to an SF Op and a retired Army Colonel. He told me directly in his human trafficking class a few weeks ago that he was a retired Army 0-6 (Colonel) upon finding out that I was a Marine vet. I am willing to sign a petition regarding this statement and would like to have the school collect signatures to this affect from other students who have taken his workshops. Furthermore, he claims to have to have taken part in Operation Eagle Claw (the rescue mission of the Iranian hostages, a Delta Force mission) and has been found to be plagiarizing stories from books during his lectures. For example, he plagiarized a story from a book called The Mission, The Men and Me by author Peter Blaber. On pg 56 of that book, Blaber describes how he purchased a gorilla suit for one of his missions as a Delta Force op. Mr. Hillar tells the exact same story in his Tactical Terrorism class, but passes it off as his own experience. Lastly, documents from a Freedom Of Information Act request show no record of any Army service, let lone special forces. His military record can be verified easily by giving his social security number to the NCIS or any other military criminal investigative service for verification purposes.
On Nov 8, 2010, at 10:09 AM, Miller, Tate wrote:
....the administration is aware of this information. Dean Shi has spoken with Professor Hillar and the matter continues to be investigated.
To be sure, we are still investigating William Hillar's bio and other information -- all we know for sure at this point is that there does seem to have been a mistake made in his bio on our website. The information is not correct. Professor Hillar claims he never gave us this information. It will be removed. Even though he is an adjunct professor and not a member of our full-time faculty, once we have the full set of data, should there have been misrepresentations as outlined in your email, the administration will take the appropriate measures, including considering not having him teach his spring semester workshop.
Please be assured, we take these accusations very seriously and will act accordingly.
Sincerely,
Tate Miller
Mr. Millar,
I am a student here at MIIS and would like to bring some important information to your attention. According to evidence I have gathered over the past several days it appears that Mr. Bill Hillar, an adjunct Professor at here at this school, is falsely claiming to be a retired Army Colonel and special forces operative. Not only is lying about your military record a slanderous offense in and of itself, he is using these credentials to teach courses here at MIIS. His Tactical Terrorism class is almost entirely composed of his "experience" as a member of Delta Force. I would strongly advise that he asked to present a DD214 and have his background throughly investigated. Moreover, due to the questionable nature of Mr. Hillar's integrity, I am also highly suspect of his academic credentials and hope that MIIS will begin an investigation into those as well. Lastly, I would like to know how MIIS allowed Mr. Hillar to teach courses at this University without properly vetting him in the first place? For personal reasons I will not include the evidence I have for these allegations through email, but I am more than willing to discuss this matter in person.
Thank you,

We're learning just how big of a problem human trafficking is within the United States, and right here in Oregon, with the US being the number one human trafficking destination in the world.
But Bill Hillar, a retired US Army Colonel in the special forces, says the state of Oregon is finally doing something about it.
He spoke Tuesday at a human trafficking event sponsored by the Zonta Club, his expertise on the topic coming from a personal experience.
Hillar says, "I was sitting in my office in North Carolina and I got a phone call from our government agency that said, your daughter's been kidnapped. And it bothered me a lot because I had worked in that part of the world for a long time, so I took a leave."
The retired Colonel says, with the help of international police, he began cracking down on human trafficking, traveling to Singapore to try and rescue his daughter, who had been kidnapped by human traffickers and made into a sex slave."
Hillar couldn't save his daughter in time, she was murdered by those traffickers, but says, other little girls are being saved thanks to legislator's.
"I've been in the field since 1988 and I've seen a lot of changes for the worse, but finally, our country and the state of Oregon is doing something. Oregon has got to change their laws a little bit to make it more convenient for police officer's to do their job, but its happening."
The International Labor Organization estimates 12.3 million women and children are forced into bounded labor and commercial sexual servitude in the United States.
Just surfing around, since I can't sleep this morning, I found some more interesting info. I don't remember seeing it in any of the threads so if I missed it, let me know. I found a link where supposedly our Mr. Hillar founded an advocacy group called "Just Yell Fire"http://www.zoominfo.com/search#searc...rgetid=profile
Checking the site, it appears the founder is actually a woman named Dallas Jessup. http://www.justyellfire.com/about.php This group is in the Portland area as well, but I see no reference to Mr. Hillar on it.

Elon honors "Hometown Heroes" in annual ceremony
Three people who make a difference in the lives of others were honored Monday by Elon University in the 17th annual “Hometown Heroes” awards ceremony on campus. Freshmen class officers selected the honorees for “making a positive difference by touching lives and strengthening their home communities” in a program sponsored by the Truitt Center for Religious and Spiritual Life.
Bill Hillar, Millersville, Maryland
Nominated and introduced by Savannah Chaisson in connection with Rex Water’s Elon 101 class
Award presented by Kyrstin Wallach, Secretary
Bill Hillar is an activist who speaks to all who will listen about his personal experiences concerning the atrocities of human trafficking.Hillar says that In 1988, while traveling with school mates, his daughter was abducted and forced into the sex industry. Despite an exhaustive, multi-country search, Hillar says he was unable to save his daughter from the fate that ultimately took her life. According to Hillar, the movie "Taken" with Liam Neeson is partially based on his personal story. Rather than allow the loss of his daughter to devastate him for the rest of his life, Hillar says he has dedicated his life to educating people on the largely overlooked problem of human trafficking.
Meaghan Murphy, Lexington, Massachusetts
Nominated and introduced by Alyssa Kendall in connection with Chet Denlinger’s Elon 101 class
Award presented by Natalie Cuzmenco, Treasurer
Currently a first year student at High Point University, Meaghan Murphy is an example of how young people can truly make a difference in their communities, regardless of their age.Murphy was instrumental in organizing a fundraiser, “Volley for Molly,” to raise money for Molly Eisenberg, a teammate who was diagnosed with ovarian cancer shortly after beginning her first year at college. This fundraiser went on to garner an attendance of over 1,000 people and raised significant funds for ovarian cancer research. The program has become an annual event in Lexington, and has been replicated in other communities to raise awareness of ovarian cancer in memory of Molly.
Mark Watros, Greenwich, Connecticut
Nominated and introduced by Peter Fox in connection with Janis Baughman’s Elon 101 class
Award presented by Alexandra Briggs, Senator
Upon his eighteenth birthday, Mark Watros enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp. While serving his third and final tour of duty during Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2006, Watros redirected a vehicle loaded with an explosive device. Despite being seriously injured during the interception, he continued protecting his fellow Marines until he was medically evacuated. The USMC awarded Mark a Purple Heart, and the Combat Distinguishing Device which exemplifies valor, bravery and heroic actions while facing an enemy in combat. After rehabilitating from his injuries, Watros personally requested to rejoin his unit and served the remainder of his tour. He is currently a student at Ferris State University while pursuing his dream of becoming a professional golfer.

GSIPM is pleased to announce Shauna Kelly and Melissa Booth as co-winners of the essay contest on anti-human trafficking. Each student won a prize if $750, contributed by Professor Peter Grothe. The prizes were dedicated in memory of Sale Hillar, the late daughter of Professor Bill Hillar, who was killed by traffickers in Southeast Asia. Professor Hillar teaches a popular workshop on anti-human trafficking every year.
Bill Hillar, Meaghan Murphy and Mark Watros may have lived very different lives, but they have one thing in common — they are all heroes.
All three were recognized Monday night as "Hometown Heroes" after being nominated by members of the Class of 2014 for "making a positive difference by touching lives and strengthening their home communities."
Hillar, nominated by Savannah Chaisson, has worked to fight against human trafficking, specifically the female sex slave trade, after his 16 year-old daughter was abducted while traveling abroad. The film "Taken," starring Liam Nesson, was loosely based on Hillar's story.
http://www.elon.edu/pendulum/Story.aspx?id=4547
Ok, if you ever had just a little bit of doubt that Hillar's daughter may have, in some atomically small way, been trafficked for real here is 100% proof that it's all BS. I took his human trafficking class back in October and he told us that his daughter was hacked to death in Mexico with machetes after being sexually tortured. Here is a link to a story where Hillar says that his daughter was found dead in a warehouse in Borneo:
Romine said the story of retired US Army Special Forces Colonel William Hillar is actually similar to the one in the movie.
Hillar's daughter was kidnapped along with two friends while taking a train out of Bangkok. Within 24 hours, the girls were already in Kuala Lumpur and forced to become sex slaves.
After finding out about the kidnapping, Hillar took his friends and tracked his daughter for the next 6 months. The search took him to Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Macau, the Philippines and finally in a warehouse in Borneo with 32 girls inside.
"He goes in and finds one of the friends and asks: 'Where's my baby?' She said: 'Oh sir, a week ago she escaped and found a policeman and he brought her back here. She was tortured to death as an example to the other girls.' He got there a week late," Romine recounted.

"Our records show he didn't receive the degree," said UO spokesman Joe Mosley.

Human Trafficking Hero…or FRAUD?
Nov 20 2010
By Anthony M. Davis
About a week ago I received an email from a woman I know in the Pacific Northwest. Last year I interviewed her for my upcoming book on Human Trafficking. I trust her intuition since she knows about trafficking…she was a trafficking victim for five years. In her email she asked me what I thought of a man named Bill Hillar. According to the email, some believe he is a fraud. I explained that I hadn’t heard of him but would certainly look into it. It didn’t take too long to find this man has a questionable history. Fortunately, my work was made easier by some who had already taken up the mission to discover who he really is.
Bill Hillar claims he is retired U.S. Army Special Forces Colonel. He also claims the movie, “Taken” is based upon his own life story when his daughter was kidnapped, forced into trafficking and then murdered. Using this story he established himself as a expert and began a teaching/public speaking business. There’s good money in public speaking…it’s just important if the words are true.
Paperwork obtained through the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) shows there is “No Record” of his affiliation with the Army. (Click this link to see the Army letter). The next question is whether he has any military service. Once again, using information through FOIA records it shows he served as a U.S. Coast Guard Reservist from 1962 to 1970. (see link here.) Given that, the question continues. Did Bill Hillar actually claim these things or did someone say that he presented himself as a US Army Colonel?
Bill Hillar maintained a website (www.billhillartraining.com). Yet, around the time that people began questioning his status as either a hero or a liar, his website was taken down. Yet, once on the Internet…always on the Internet. This link is an archive of his biography from his website. Looking further, it appears that he had Elon University scammed into believing his story. On November 12th, he was honored by the university as a “Hometown Hero” by being a person that “makes a difference.” Here is a link to the Elon University story. It’s clear that Bill Hillar presented himself as someone other than who he actually is.
Over the years, Hillar developed a good business teaching and speaking. He lives in Carmel, California…not a cheap living. Here is a list of public corporations, universities, agencies and businesses that Bill Hillar claims to have as clients. These are companies with funds able to pay well for speaking and training events. (See link here.) Additionally, he lists a variety of law enforcement clients. It’s usually a bad idea to defraud anyone. Yet, when you stand before law enforcement professionals who are paid with limited public funding and defraud them…that’s really dumb. Given that these training sessions were paid for with public funds, all of us become victims as our taxes subsidized his income. (Here’s the link to law enforcement and other high risk clients.)
So…what about the murdered daughter? I know that Hillar established an essay award in the name of his dead daughter, Sale Hillar. More information about the award, including a chance to read two well-written essays by contestants are available HERE. If Hillar’s daughter was a trafficking victim, that’s a horrible thing. Yet, while I’ve not verified this, it appears that his daughter may be alive and well in North Carolina.
His students at the Monterey Institute of International Studies feel cheated and rightfully so. We live in a world where our young adults should have legitimate mentors, willing to guide them to a life of success – not show them that those who stood before them telling (and showing emotion) during his stories are liars. Yesterday the news story broke in California. (Click HERE for the story and news video.)
It’s too early to say how this will end. Yet, I would not be surprised to see it snowball into a complete web of lies. Last year I had the privilege to help expose a “Medal of Honor” fraud. In that case the individual continued changing his story and resume as he was challenged. His educational bonafides changed with the weather and it was eventually turned over to authorities. My guess is this case will operate along a similar path of deceit.
Because he has not been charged or convicted, we can’t legally call the man a fraud. Yet, the facts are clear as we know them. I contacted him for an interview. I’ve had no reply. If charged, this man could obviously face fraud charges. Additionally, if proven that funds obtained through fraudulent activities purchased property of any tangible value that could open the doors to money laundering or conspiracy if tied with any accomplice and ultimately asset forfeiture and incarceration.
If the allegations are proven true, this man will have earned a living on the backs of those millions of victims each year that suffer as slaves in the sex and labor trades. Shameful.
"Our records show he didn't receive the degree" after being in a doctoral program in health from 1970 to 1973, said university spokesman Joe Mosley.
Funny that, MIIS had hillar listed, no, they ADVERTISED BILL HILLAR as an "Adjunct Professor".
And now Jason Warburg is stating "for the record" that william g hillar was only a "contractor".
Mr. Warburg, you may fool the young adults at MIIS but you're not fooling me. Re-titling or demoting bill hillar to "contractor" is not going to mitigate your schools responsibilities in a court of law.
Mr. Warburg, your school needs to accept responsibility for hiring a FRAUD, giving him the title of "Adjunct Professor" and displaying/advertising him like a three headed snake.
Let us know when the Monterey Institute of International Studies fires the individual responsible for hiring the liar and fraud bill hillar.

To the members of the Monterey Institute campus community:
We are writing to share with you the conclusions of the process of intensive research and consultation that the Institute has engaged in since learning of potential issues regarding the academic and military credentials presented to the Institute by one of our workshop instructors, Mr. Bill Hillar. We thank you for your patience and understanding as the Institute has examined these very serious issues.
We have attached a statement of the findings reached by the Institute in this matter. These include:
• That Mr. Hillar claimed an academic credential on his resume (a Ph.D. from the University of Oregon) that he did not in fact earn.
• That the Institute has been unable to substantiate the military service claimed by Mr. Hillar.
Because Mr. Hillar never applied for a position as an employee of the Institute, serving only as an independent contractor retained to lead a single three-day, one-credit workshop per semester, he was not subject to the pre-employment background checks that the Institute requires of all regular employees, a category that includes all faculty and adjunct faculty. As a result of this incident, the Institute has made the decision to extend the requirement for a full pre-engagement background check to any person who provides classroom instruction for academic credit at the Monterey Institute, regardless of their employment status. This change in policy is effective immediately.
These findings of course require us to address the issue of academic credit for the workshops led by Mr. Hillar in the past. As a consequence of our findings in this matter, the Institute will offer two options to every student who has taken a workshop led by Mr. Hillar at the Monterey Institute:

These findings of course require us to address the issue of academic credit for the workshops led by Mr. Hillar in the past. As a consequence of our findings in this matter, the Institute will offer two options to every student who has taken a workshop led by Mr. Hillar at the Monterey Institute:
• Affected students who met the academic requirements of the workshop may choose to allow the credit to stand on their academic record. (Students choosing this option do not need to take any action.)
• Alternatively, affected students may request that the credit from the workshop be removed from their academic record, in which case they will be offered the opportunity to enroll in another one-credit workshop offered by the Institute at no additional cost. (Students choosing this option should contact Tate Miller, dean of Advising, Career and Student Services, by December 14.)
The Institute is in the process of identifying a qualified instructor to lead a human trafficking workshop in the spring 2011 semester, and will work to make this workshop available both on-site and online.
In the course of our review, we confirmed that most of our workshops are currently led by regular or adjunct faculty.
We recognize that many of you have been anxious to know the conclusions of this process. We want to assure you that this process has been both very thorough and conducted as expeditiously as possible under the circumstances. Those circumstances have included both extensive research and information-sharing with similarly affected institutions, and active cooperation with law enforcement.
The public record suggests that a number of agencies and institutions across the country, including law enforcement and other government agencies, non-profits, and educational institutions, have been similarly affected by Mr. Hillar’s actions. Nonetheless, the ultimate responsibility for the quality and integrity of the instruction received at the Monterey Institute of International Studies rests with us. We deeply regret this incident and offer our sincere apologies to the students, alumni, faculty, and staff who have been affected by it.
Finally, and perhaps most importantly, we want to express our profound personal gratitude to the students who brought these issues to the administration’s attention. We are proud of your service, proud of the integrity you have displayed through your actions, and proud that you chose the Monterey Institute of International Studies.

The following is from the desk of MIIS Dean Sunder Ramaswamy:
(Note: Upon further investigation, we have concluded that the aforementioned desk is not a desk, nor has it ever been a desk. Rather it served only as an independently contracted table retained to fill an empty corner. Yes, even though up until last month we did refer to it as an “adjunct desk” and advertised it as such on our website, we have since deleted such information with the hope that everybody would forget the close association we sought to cultivate.)
(We apologize for the lack of vetting process, but if it makes you feel any better, both law enforcement and other government agencies thought it was a desk as well.)

Good interview with some new perspectives on Hillar. The recorded audio has sort of a long music intro FYI.
This was a telephone interview that was done today. It's very close to what I actually said...edited to suit the news media. I never said imposter, I think it was FRAUD and Liar.... We've been "tracking" hillar since 10-19-2009, a little over a year, not posted as a fraud until just about a year later. A few small errors. Oh and "you frauds" that might be reading this, when we (real "Green Berets") track individuals we don't do so in public.... If you ask any "Quiet Professional" on this website he will tell you the same thing, we've been tracking bill hillar since 10-19-2009.Good interview with some new perspectives on Hillar. Multnomah County Sheriff opens investigation into Bill Hillar
The FBI have opened a fraud investigationinto human trafficking and counter terrorism speaker, Bill Hillar.
Besides the FBI, the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office in Portland, Ore., has opened a fraud investigation. Hillar had been scheduled this month to be a keynote speaker at a University of Portland conference on human trafficking but he did not show up.
Hillar spoke in Coos County last month as a keynote speaker for Zonta. His story began to fall apart when military veterans questioned the authenticity of his service.
…a special forces group said it spent the past year tracking Bill Hillar.
…They aren’t out for blood like some may think. Hinton said it’s all about doing their homework on potential frauds like Hillar and letting the truth be known.“You got to remember how small we are and to not know a colonel with special forces? No one knew him.”“The nail in the coffin was the Freedom of Information Act from Army operations Command…I mean this is a Full Bird Colonel and no record on him? It’s like that’s it!”
Hillar was scheduled to speak at the University of Portland later this month.
Along with frequent speeches to law enforcement groups across the country, Hillar has taught workshops on human trafficking and terrorism at the Monterey Institute of International Studies twice a year since 2005, most recently last month. Students at the institute recently challenged what Hillar said were his credentials as a retired colonel in U.S. Army Special Forces who had earned a doctorate from the University of Oregon.
Human trafficking is a very real and very serious problem and Hillar’s alleged efforts to capitalize on society’s very real concerns should not discourage people from supporting a cause to end it.
