Statistical Probabilities

What are the statistical probabilities that an extremist organization of only a few year's standing, which had already developed the reputation for targeting Christian missionaries by 1995, would luck out when attacking the up-scale resort Dos Palmas in 2001, where Martin and Gracia Burnham, missionaries from the state of Kansas, would happen to be celebrating their wedding anniversary?

July 4, 1995, The Straits Times / UPI, p.14, Teachers Transferred,
Muslim bandits who kidnapped three teachers in the southern Philippines last week had turned over its hostages to a Muslim extremist group, the education authorities in Zamboanga yesterday said.
Education regional director Miguel Garcia said the teachers had been transferred to a camp of the Abu Sayyaf group in Sampinit, Basilan, 880 km south of Manila.--UPI.

July 6, 1995, The Straits Times, p.16, Trio Freed,
The military stormed a Muslim guerilla hideout in the southern Philippines on Tuesday, freeing three kidnapped teachers and killing one of their captors, the presidential palace announced in Manila.
The three were seized by Muslim bandits a week ago. The bandits later turned their captives over to the Abu Sayyaf, an extremist guerilla group linked to the bombing of Christian targets and the kidnapping of foreign missionaries.---AFP.

As Basilan Rep. Gerry Salapuddin said in reference to a mass hostage taking just prior to, and overlapping, the the Dos Palmas kidnapping:
"For God's sake, what would they get from the teachers, a priest and schoolchildren if they want money? These teachers are receiving meager salaries (minus) all the loans that they are paying," he said.
