I don't think it's excessive to spend twelve words describing a lobby where they had to spend some time waiting, and which made an impression by its opulence and normalcy. It is with this sort of verisimilitudinous detail that I find this story believable. <br /><br />In fact, you give yourself away a bit here I think. Should he have stuck to an agenda-driven narrative of the Trade Tower's collapse like so many of the other stories? It was the experience of their whole indivisible day, and not just further saturation of the media memes. I'm pleased the story holds up on my rereading it, but I guess I'm not feeling cynical these days.
